Trudi's Top 5 Winter 'Must-Haves'

The ultimate capsule wardrobe is still one thing that most women I meet are aiming to aspire to have. As part of trying to achieve this goal, I’m often asked about what I think the 5 ‘must-have’ items are in any woman’s wardrobe. For this year and for this coming spring season, here are my suggestions.

1.      Fashion sneaker

All hail the fashion sneaker. The only thing you need to remember is that this is not a ‘running shoe’ teamed with your day-to-day outfit. This is a ‘fashion’ sneaker which means you can wear it with anything (skirts, dresses, tights, leggings, jeans, trousers). It is comfortable and stylish. You can have plain white or my favourites are detailed & metallic. Check out the selection from Hannahs and be brave when it comes to texture and colour!

2.      Denim Jacket

I do really believe everyone needs one. Gone are the boxy, rigid denim jackets of yesteryear. Today’s denim jacket looks classic, but is thinner and has wonderful stretch and excellent cuts. Wear them layered in the chilly seasons with a winter top underneath & come summer you with grab it to wear over your summer dress when you head off to a BBQ. My favourites are from Max (I particularly like their very dark denim options) and Just Jeans have a great selection. If you want a super on-trend version you’ll grab one with embroidery. But you can’t also go far wrong with a classic that you will be wearing for many years to come.

3.      Party dress

When shopping with a client and coming across a fabulous party dress when there isn’t one already in the wardrobe there can sometimes be a dilemma. Many clients’ say ‘but I haven’t got anywhere to wear it to?”. But my advice has always been if you find the perfect dress (colour, style & fit) you need it in your wardrobe for the time when you DO get an invite to an event that will need you to be dressed up for. If you already have the perfect dress in your wardrobe, there is never any need for panic.  So check out the pretty options at Max – like the LS Lace dress. Or how about Pagani? They have so many different styles to choose from so that you can pick the ideal one for your shape. They currently have maxi’s, fit and flare styles, shift dresses and off the shoulder options to name but a few. Jacqui E are always a great go-to option for dresses and often have excellent choices that combine fit AND rouching (which in case you didn’t know is amazing over tummies)

4.      Stripes

Classic, timeless and always guaranteed to make any outfit more interesting. It’s a not a piece of clothing, but I do believe everyone needs some stripes in their life! Don’t worry about horizontal stripes making you look wider, they don’t and an Oxford University Study has been done to prove it. I really like the CDC Stripe Shirt dress at Pagani & the Stripe wrap Long-sleeve midi dress at MAX. If you just want to add stripes in a smaller way, how about a striped scarf from Just Jeans? Or a casual T?

5.      Accessories

Nothing completes an outfit quite like a great accessory. It can add colour & interest to an otherwise plain ensemble. Statement necklaces look great, as do scarves in nice fabrics, colours and patterns. All the fashion stores at Johnsonville Shopping Centre have an excellent selection of accessories (see my last blog for inspiration). If you need help knowing how big your necklace should be, think about your body proportions. If you are a medium build, a small to medium mix of size is idea.

Roll on spring and keep your eye out for my next Facebook LIVE event to welcome in the new season. Stay warm and colourful!
