PRETTY PARTY DRESSES

Updating your festive season frocks has never been easier, with so many pretty party dresses on offer this season.  From strappy numbers, to off the shoulder. Chiffon and lace. Ruffles, Vs and cowl necklines. Let me guide you on what the trends are, to find the perfect one for you.

First up, the straps. Many women will not touch a thin strapped dress because they are self-conscious about their arms. Do remember that you can always pop a crop cardigan or fitted jacket over the dress to solve this problem. If you have wider shoulders, thicker straps are better as it keeps them more in proportion. Shoulder cut-outs and off the shoulder dresses are still popular and Jacqui E have a number of lovely options in this trend. If your event isn’t super formal check out Just Jeans, as they have many off the shoulder dress options in lovely neutrals. Add some statement jewellery to dress them up to be perfect for any casual dressy occasion.

Don’t underestimate the impact the right neckline has on your overall look. Busty ladies need the lower V or a nice flat cowl neck. If you are petite up top then go for it with a higher neckline, full cowl or plenty of frills. Speaking of frills, MAX has a lovely ruffle trim strappy dress in a gorgeous antique cherry colour, with a higher neckline, so it’s going to suit a smaller bust. However, their bias frill dress has a gorgeous V neck and ticks the boxes on a flattering cut for the bigger busted lady. I also really like the CDC cowl lace pencil dress from Pagani in Tangerine! What an entrance this would make.

To me, a pretty party dress is usually made with special fabric, with interesting texture, and /or pattern. I really like the embroidered flare dress in summer navy from MAX. It has a flattering strap width, with a neckline sure to suit everyone. When talking texture we can’t forget that this is the season of lace! It’s such a great fabric and because there is so much choice this year, it can be a full lace dress, or a lace sleeve or detailing.  Check out the scalloped lace Bardot dress which shows off your shoulders and comes in many gorgeous, vibrant colours from Pagani. Other fabrics that say “this is a party dress” include chiffon.  Black Pepper have a lovely chiffon beaded detail FireFly top, which you can team with a long skirt or flared trousers if you are looking for the wow factor! Or how about Pagani's lovely floaty print dress? And dont' forget to have a look in Gloria’s, where there's always a full range of beautiful dresses in amazing fabrics.

So when out at Johnsonville Shopping Centre, shopping for the perfect party frock, think neckline, straps, fabric & texture. But most of all think about you and how the dress makes you feel when you wear it. Don’t disregard your instincts because your event will be so much more enjoyable if you feel like you look a million dollars. Happy Christmas everyone and happy shopping. See you in the New Year!
