Shoulders are the new black!

Shoulders are the new black! No seriously – this is a huge trend this season. Us women may not like our arms much, but let’s be a bit braver about showing off our shoulders shall we? Here are the options of this trend you can think about trying.

The Shoulder cut-outs – as it says, these are where you have straps, but then the shoulders are cut out and the sleeves continue on.  This still fits with this peasant/boho vibe we have been seeing for the last few years during summer. You can have small cuts or large draping ones. So depending on how much you like this style and your upper arms, you have different options to choose from.

Max has a lovely printed dress called cold Shoulder print dress that would be very versatile this season. Nice length too, not too short, not too long.  If you are looking for a plain black version, try the Cocoon Cold Shoulder dress, also from Max or the chiffon cold shoulder boho dress from Pagani.

Jacqui E also has a few shoulder cut out options and if there is there is a striped version, then you know you are onto a winner! One striped option I did spy is in Pagani, called the Viscose cold shoulder sweater. Love those classic navy and white medium sized vertical stripes. SO flattering and versatile to wear, especially as it's in neutral colours.

Just Jeans has such a pretty option called the Keely Cold shoulder top. It has spaghetti straps then the shoulder detail drops. Best of all it comes in a few colours.

Off the shoulder options – this is the full monty. Exposure of both shoulders. I’m seeing a lot of tops and dresses like this and many have a frill at the bust. Beware the bulk of this busty ladies! Instead go for a more fitted, plainer version with some pretty rouching instead.

There are quite a few pretty off the shoulder options at Jacqui E, good ¾ length sleeve which is always flattering and some lovely colours to choose from. Print or plain, take your pick and team with a nice skirt for work or a denim skirt for the weekend. Lovely also with blue or white jeans or casual draped trousers if you wanted to dress it up. Pop on a necklace and sit it between your collarbone and the top of the top.

Pagani’s textured knit Bardot dress exposes both shoulders and has a flattering drape across the tummy.  Their textured poplin gathered top is also really nice and has those ¾ sleeves that are really handy in summer.

If this trend is just not for you, then stick to getting the neckline right for your summer tops and dresses. Remember, to lengthen your neck and reduce bust size, stick with a lower neckline. Those with a smaller bust and shoulder width can do the opposite and wear a higher neckline.

But back to the shoulders, it has been tipped as being ‘the hottest trend in 2016’ so you are not going to struggle to find many variations and options. With this trend as the feature of your outfit, make sure everything else is simple for the best styling. Simple yet elegant wide leg trousers, slim jeans or a fitted pencil skirt will all beautifully compliment your sexy shoulder style.
