Lady in Red

Autumn clothes are hitting the shops and I’m going to choose a few trends that are particular popular this season. Remember that even if you don’t consider yourself a trendsetter in the fashion department, adding a simple item to your current staples can create a whole new look and vibe to your wardrobe.

Autumn and winter are times when those who like the warmer tones get bombarded with colour. My two favourite colour trends this autumn are orange and plum/maroon. Wear them as separates, a column of colour, or do what I love and put them together. They look amazing side by side. I really love the orangey brown Longline Button Front coat from MAX. A beautiful classic cut, single breasted, with a great length - not too long, or short. Imagine the impact you could have walking into a room wearing this instead of your usual trusty black coat?

If wearing these hues in clothing is out of your comfort zone, how about a scarf or a pair of shoes instead? There are many ways of incorporating on-trend colours into your wardrobe where it doesn’t have to be completely ‘full on’.

For instance, Pagani has a lovely paisley scarf in a plumy maroon colour that will lift any outfit, and a modern statement piece waterfall bead necklace in golds and oranges. Hannah’s can help you with coloured footwear like an amazing pair of ankle boots in dark orange called the Cyra Catelyn and Banks have orange strappy sandals as a more open alternative.

Lace is still a strong element through the autumn season and Pagani have a lovely scallop lace crossover dress in Maroon. MAX have the prettiest plum coloured lace long sleeved dress. Ideal for any autumn soirees you have, especially with those longer sleeves.

Crossover front blouses

Another flattering trend to emerge is crossover front blouses. Hoorah for these I say! Great necklines, pretty detail with the crossover and flattering cuts. I really love the maroon option at Pagani called the textured CDC cross front top. If this colour isn’t for you, rest assured they have this style in other colours. Great for under a blazer (like the tan suede look blazer from Preen at Gloria’s).

Short or long, midi or maxi length – there is going to be a lot of skirt options this season. Pencil, A-lines, pleated, or flared, pick the style that best suits your body shape and age and team with top that compliments it. For instance, if you have a fuller style skirt, it’s ideal to wear a more fitted top, vice versa, a blouse with volume looks great with a fitted pencil skirt.

Jacqui E always has an excellent range of skirts. The ladies at Johnsonville shopping centre are great at helping you find the right one to suit you.  I really also like the new Cairn2 skirt at Wild South. Such a pretty floral print in merlot and white. What would you wear this with you ask? You could team it with either of these colours to match (merlot/white), a black or grey top OR why not take my suggestion on colour and go bold with an orange top? Lots of possibilities.

Sheer fabrics are big this season. They are the perfect in-between option for when the weather is still warmish, but you need a bit of overall coverage. MAX has an abundant amount of sheer dress and blouse options.  Pagani’s floaty tie front top also ticks lots of boxes. It’s sheer, is maroon and due to its ‘floaty front’ is very flattering on tums.

Wave goodbye to Summer 15/16 and hello to a whole new wardrobe of possibilities for autumn 2016. Make 2016 the year you decide to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Embrace the new colour and style trends and give you and your wardrobe a lift as we head into the dark and colder months.
